Resources and Links

Here’s a list of resources to help you reach your goals.

Fun ways to move more:

Image consultant:

If you’re unhappy with your appearance, it’s a lot easier and much faster (not to mention probably more effective) to boost your confidence and self-esteem by choosing flattering clothes and colors along with a hairstyle, jewelry, and glasses that complement your face than it is to wait until you’ve reached your “ideal” weight to start looking great. A professional image consultant is trained to help you look your best in the body you have today. We recommend:

  • Counterpoint Yoga: Nancy Kalinski is a retired physician’s assistant and now a yoga teacher with a medical focus. Her particular interest is in working with people who want to maintain and improve their bodies as they age even if they have limits and medical conditions.
  • Peggy Cappy: Creator of the PBS Yoga for the Rest of Us DVD series and the founder of Gentle Stretch Yoga for seniors and others who need a gentle or modified approach to yoga.

Help Resolving Eating Problems:

  • Womankind Counseling Center: Concord 225-2985
  • Green Mountain at Fox Run: Only 2 hours from Concord, Green Mountain at Fox Run is a center for women who wish to end their struggle with overeating, binge eating, compulsive eating, etc. The focus is on learning to normalize eating and enjoy physical movement with a non-dieting approach.
  • The Conscious Cafe: Alice Rosen is a psychotherapist and educator specializing in eating and body image issues. Her private practice is located in Concord, MA. She offers intensive weekend retreats and individual counseling using a non-diet approach for those seeking freedom from food, weight, and eating issues.
  • Gürze Books: Is a publishing company specializing in resources, especially books, for eating disorders recovery.
  • F.E.A.S.T.: Families Empowered and Supporting Treatment of Eating Disorders
  • Maudsley Parents: A website for parents of eating disordered children. It is a volunteer organization of parents who have used the Maudsley approach, or Family Based Treatment, to help their children recover from anorexia or bulimia.

Gluten Free Living:

  • Gluten Free Living: Fantastic magazine for those living a gluten free life
  • National  Celiac Association: Massachusetts based group that offers information-packed programs several times a year including a huge expo for tasting and buying GF foods
